AMMAN (JT) - The Jubilee School has become one of 1,000 schools worldwide that are part of the international network “Schools: Partners of the Future“, which is funded by the German government.
Jubilee School Director Suha Jouaneh and Goethe- Institut Jordanien Director Thomas Lier signed an agreement to this effect on Sunday in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Noor and German Ambassador to Jordan Joachim Heidorn, according to a statement released by the German embassy in Amman.
“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the King Hussein Foundation, we are very proud today that the Jubilee School, one of its key institutions, is launching a partnership with the Goethe-Institut to enrich the school’s diverse educational programme,” Queen Noor said at the signing ceremony.
“Language is a valuable window into other cultures, and into international understanding and relationships. We hope this initiative will enhance the Jubilee School’s role in serving our beloved Jordan,” she added.
Instigated by German Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the initiative seeks to establish a network of partner schools spanning the globe and in so doing, encourage young people to take an interest in and have an enthusiasm for modern Germany and its society, the statement said.
The initiative is coordinated by the German foreign office and, in Jordan, jointly implemented with the Goethe-Institut.
As part of the agreement, the Goethe-Institut will provide training for German language teachers and additional learning material for students who study German, and has equipped a classroom for language training.
The Jubilee School's programme promotes cultural exchange and openness to other cultures and societies around the world.
By introducing the German language as an elective course to grades 9 and 10 in the current semester, in addition to the teaching of English, French and Spanish, the school offers unlimited opportunities for students to learn and explore other cultures, the statement said.
In addition, the school’s elective courses programme helps students to identify their study interests and plan for their future careers at an early age.
Also yesterday, Queen Noor and the board of directors of the Jubilee School paid tribute to Abla Zuraykat, the former director of Jubilee School. They thanked her for her work during the past eight years in developing the school and its resources and welcomed her successor.
