The designation of HRH Prince Hussein as Crown Prince fills a critical vacuum. Prince Hussein, the eldest son of Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania, reached the age of 15. The preservation and continuation of the Hashemite dynasty called for naming the Crown Prince as a matter of need for the political order of the Kingdom, so this is a good time for the move.

The Constitution of the land makes designation of the Crown Prince a pressing demand; in accordance with it, the eldest son of the King is normally assigned Crown Prince, and what the Royal Decree issued on July 2 did was simply to give expression to the normative practice in this regard.

Jordanians welcomed the decision, expressing happiness and deep satisfaction that the post of Crown Prince has been filled in strict compliance with the organic law of the Kingdom.

The Crown Prince will continue to be trained in state affairs under the guidance and supervision of his parents. A very bright young man, there is no doubt that Prince Hussein’s journey of learning about state affairs and the complexities of good governance will be accomplished with flying colours.

His official position declared, he will undoubtedly enjoy all the support needed to carry out his new official functions.

We congratulate the Crown Prince on this happy occasion and pray to God that he will be most successful in all his endeavours under the watchful eyes of the King and Queen.
