AMMAN (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday instructed the government to work immediately and effectively to intensify political action in the international arena to highlight the seriousness and illegitimacy of Israeli violations against Al Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.

Chairing a meeting of the National Policies Council, the King called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and take an immediate and firm position to stop all unilateral Israeli measures in Jerusalem and to put an end to Israeli violations of international laws and charters pertaining to holy sites.

The meeting was designed to discuss measures to be taken to face Israeli violations against Al Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites in Jerusalem. It also sought to look into Israel's unilateral measures in Jerusalem to alter the identity of the city and evict its Arab and Muslim residents.

His Majesty warned against the consequences of the provocative Israeli measures, which Jordan has repeatedly rejected and condemned.

The King also underlined the need for the government to continue to follow up on the implementation of projects discussed last month at a meeting the King chaired in the presence of several officials and key Jerusalemites.

At last month's meeting, the King reiterated Jordan's continued support for the holy places in Jerusalem and for the steadfastness of Muslim and Christian Arabs in the Holy City.

The King noted that preserving Jerusalem and protecting it is a Hashemite and Jordanian priority and Jordan will never stop exerting all efforts to realise that objective.

Meanwhile, the King received a letter from Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on developments in the region, efforts to make progress in realising peace and the latest developments in ongoing efforts to realise Palestinian reconciliation.

The Monarch received the letter at a meeting yesterday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman.

The two officials briefed the King on Egypt's efforts to end the inter-Palestinian rivalry and achieve reconciliation among the different Palestinian factions.

His Majesty stressed Jordan's full support for Egypt's efforts in this regard, saying he highly values its role in working to end the Palestinian divide.

The King said realising Palestinian reconciliation is a national Palestinian interest and a critical step towards realising the rights of the Palestinians, especially their right to independence and statehood.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nader Dahabi said the Kingdom is conducting intensive communications with Arab, Muslim and European leaders to stop violations against Al Aqsa Mosque by groups of Jewish radicals.

The Premier made the remarks while chairing a meeting at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, where he referred to measures the Kingdom has taken in light of the Israeli violations against Al Aqsa Mosque.

On Sunday, the Kingdom summoned the Israeli chargé d'affaires in Amman and issued a letter of protest, stressing the need to stop all unilateral measures by Israel.

The Premier also referred to efforts the Kingdom is exerting with Arab and Islamic countries and countries representing the UN Security Council, the EU and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to stop the Israeli measures.

Dahabi added that Jordan considers Jerusalem a red line, stressing that Jordan is in charge of looking after the holy sites in Jerusalem.

At the meeting, the Premier said all feel angry towards what is happening against Al Aqsa Mosque, saying it is strange that some express their anger by destroying public and private properties.

The Premier added that the government will not allow anyone to take advantage of what is happening to destroy public or private properties.

Also yesterday, Al Rafah Jordanian Party issued a statement in which it called for supporting the Jerusalemites in facing the Israeli measures.

It also called for exerting efforts to render the Israeli schemes a failure.
