AMMAN (JT) - Her Majesty Queen Rania on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the board of trustees of Al Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans to examine the fund’s activities, achievements and future programmes.

The Queen, who heads the board of trustees, launched the fund in 2003 to provide orphans who have graduated from orphan care centres with support that enables them to become active and productive members of society.

During the meeting held at the fund’s headquarters, board members reviewed the fund’s administrative and financial reports and discussed plans for Ramadan.

Queen Rania reiterated that the main goal of the fund is to secure orphans with education and training opportunities as they grow up and leave the care centres to enable them to build their futures and join the community.

The fund is providing support to 120 beneficiaries.

The fund’s programmes provide assistance by covering the beneficiaries’ living expenses and providing scholarships and training opportunities, in addition to health insurance.

As part of its future goals, the fund seeks to expand the base of its beneficiaries, increase its resources and upgrade its support programmes.

Lina Kobti, who heads the fund’s board of directors, stressed the importance of contributions presented by donors and private sector institutions, highlighting the hotline that was launched to boost and facilitate donations.

Registered as a charitable society last year, Al Aman Fund, which means “security” in Arabic, works to secure tuition and educational fees for orphans.
