AMMAN — More than 14 young men have died as a result of taking bodybuilding hormones and performance enhancers, while more cases could be uncovered soon, Health Minister Abdul Latif Wreikat said at a press conference on Wednesday.
The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) apprehended a group of people and referred them to court for selling the growth hormones to teenagers in fitness clubs.
Wreikat, who is JFDA chairman, said the ministry started monitoring these clubs around three months ago after it received complaints from families whose sons passed away after taking such steroids.
A group of people have been referred to court for selling smuggled bodybuilding hormones and performance enhancers to teenagers in fitness clubs, Minister of Health Abdul Latif Wreikat said on Thursday.
Two Jordanians, including a university professor, were referred to court this week for selling smuggled bodybuilding hormones, a Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) official said on Wednesday.
Despite their various and dangerous side effects, the availability of anabolic steroids and their effectiveness in quickly building muscle mass have made them popular among Jordan’s amateur bodybuilders and other athletes, trainers warn.
