15 families in Karak get new houses under Royal Initiative

AMMAN — Fifteen families in Karak on Monday received keys to their new residences as part of a Royal Initiative to build homes for underprivileged families. 

The Royal Initiative was implemented under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, in line with the standards and criteria adopted by the Ministry of Social Development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

His Majesty’s directives came during a meeting with leaders and dignitaries of Jordan’s governorates back in 2005.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal Initiatives, handed the keys to the beneficiaries during a celebration in Karak, some 140 kilometres south of Amman. 

“Royal Initiatives aim to build on achievements and fulfil the vision of His Majesty towards improving the living conditions of citizens,” Issawi said, adding: “These initiatives cover various sectors that include health, education, the youth and social development... to transform challenges into opportunities.”  

Issawi noted that beneficiaries are selected in accordance with criteria set by the Ministry of Social Development “to guarantee justice and transparency”, and to select the families which are most in need. 

During the celebration, Minister of Social Development Basma Ishaqat said that, with the funding and support of the Royal Initiative, the ministry was capable of providing more than 3,000 residences.

She added that the dispersal of new housing units affirms the continuation of the Royal Initiative that has already played a vital role in improving the lives of the most underprivileged segments of society.
