AMMAN — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of two men who reportedly robbed a money exchange in Amman with a plastic gun on Wednesday.

Police said that the two suspects entered a money exchange near the Queen Alia Airport Highway and “waved a plastic gun at the employees demanding cash”, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

The suspects escaped with JD3,000 in cash using a vehicle with fake license plates, the police official told The Jordan Times.

No one was injured in the incident, Sartawi added.

A special team was tasked with following up on the incident and located one of the two suspects on Wednesday and later in the day they were able to arrest the second suspect, Sartawi added.

Investigators also seized a vehicle reportedly used in the robbery and part of the stolen cash, according to Sartawi.

“The suspects told investigators that they got rid of the plastic gun,” according to a Public Security Directorate (PSD) statement.

The suspects were referred to the State Security Court’s prosecution office (SSC) for further questioning and indictment, the PSD statement.

Suspects of armed robberies of banks and other financial entities are tried by the SSC.

The SCC usually considers these robberies as activities that would endanger the safety of society, disturbing public order, spreading fear among citizens and jeopardising economic resources.
