20% of work on Ibn Hammad Dam complete

AMMAN — Twenty per cent of the work on the 4-million cubic metre (mcm) Ibn Hammad Dam in Karak Governorate has been completed, according to the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA).

The JD25 million project is part of a water harvesting plan to raise the overall storage capacity of the country’s dams from the current 325mcm to 400mcm by 2020, JVA Secretary General Saad Abu Hammour said Monday during a visit to check on work at the dam.

The project aims at collecting extra amounts of rainwater for summer use to reflect positively on agriculture and living conditions, as well as attract investments and new job opportunities, according to the JVA. Moreover, it will provide residents with drinking water.
