2,009 cases of electricity tampering registered in 2017 — EDCO

AMMAN — The Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) in 2017 dealt with 2,009 cases of electric power tampering in areas under its service and suspended electricity supply to 1,596 subscribers, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

EDCO said in a statement that it inspected, in cooperation with the justice department at the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), some 28,000 subscribers, and detected 970 cases of tampering with metres and illegal transfer of electricity in.

EDCO added that it detected 310 violations in cooperation with security personnel while the total number of cases registered in the courts during the past year amounted to 965. EDCO also detected cases of vandalism, theft of equipment and three assault cases on company staff.
