AMMAN — The number of Jordanian members of the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) reached 132,571 by the end of 2016, as well as 3,780 Arab engineers and 351 foreign engineers, totalling 136,702 engineers, a Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) statement said Wednesday.

Citing a JEA annual report, SIGI said engineers with valid memberships amount to 86,632 engineers, noting that Jordanian female engineers comprised 25.3 per cent of all engineers, at 33,528, by the end of last year. Despite making up a quarter of engineers, there is only one female member of the 12-person JEA Council (2015-2018).

Regarding the branches, the electric engineering division ranked first with 12,079 female engineers, followed by civil engineering at 8,442, architecture at 5,632, chemical engineering at 3,944, mechanical engineering at 3,332 and only 99 female engineers in the mining engineering branch.
