28th issue of Arab Revolt’s mouthpiece reprinted

AMMAN — The Jordan Times distributes on Thursday the 28th issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt. 

The newspaper dedicates its front page to a letter, written by the then-Prince Abdullah I Bin Al Hussein, who was a military leader of the revolt’s army and the foreign minister of the Kingdom of Hijaz, established by his father  Sharif Hussein Bin Ali.

In the letter, which was sent as his army was trying to liberate Medina, Prince Abdullah, who is the founder of Jordan, described the high morale of his soldiers as they were fighting the Turkish forces. 

He said the Arabs could not live under the rule of a foreigner, especially after the oppression and injustice witnessed by Arabs  at the hands of the ultranationalist ruling Union and Progress government in Istanbul. He stressed the need for all Arabs rise against the wrongdoings of that government. 

The four-page paper, which stopped printing in 1924, includes in the issue at-a-glance news from Germany, the Levant and Sudan.

It also features news items published in Indian newspapers.

The distribution of Al Qibla (1916-1924) by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
