AMMAN — A total of 150,000 energy-saving lamps will be distributed to around 30,000 houses across Jordan at a cost of JD550,000 as per a project implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF).
During a ceremony on Tuesday, Energy Minister Hala Zawati said that the project is implemented through a grant from JREEEF, adding that each house in the central, northern and southern regions of the Kingdom will receive five energy-saving lamps.
Older lamps in these houses will be collected to be disposed of safely in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the minister said in a statement to The Jordan Times.
Zawati noted that the project is expected to save 10GWh per year, which will save a total of JD650,000 and reduce CO2 emissions by 6.4 tonnes annually.
National Electric Power Company CEO Amjad Rawashdeh said that Jordan’s energy sector is witnessing a “paradigm shift” in dealing with challenges by a set of procedures and projects which aim at reducing costs and saving energy.
