AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have dealt with 302 drug-related cases since the beginning of the month, arresting 310 suspects, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement released on Monday.

The cases included 44 that involved drug dealing and 255 cases of drug abuse, while 55 of the arrested suspects were reportedly involved in drug dealing.

The cases included a raid in Central Badia, which resulted in the arrest of 20 suspects involved in drug dealing while another involved a car chase that led to the arrest of five suspects, who were in possession of two large bags of synthetic cannabis (locally known as joker), in addition to one palm-sized sheet of hashish and other kinds of narcotic pills.

Also in Central Badia, a tip-off led to three suspects selling drugs in a vehicle, which was confiscated, while the three suspects were caught in the act, in possession of three bags of joker and various types of narcotics.

In east Amman, authorities chased a suspect who hit an officer while fleeing in his vehicle.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to his house, where a search yielded large amounts of joker as well as tools used in making it.

The officer was reported to be in fair condition.

Other raids and arrests took place in Amman, Maan, Jerash, Karak, Irbid, Zarqa and Balqa. The operations are part of AND’s intensified efforts to arrest drug dealers and abusers in the Kingdom, the statement said.
