AMMAN — The Ministry of Tourism and the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) announced that 398 people hit the road on Jannah Jordan programme trips, which commenced on Friday, kicking off the programme’s second season.

Under the slogan “Our Jordan is Good”, 23 tour buses transported the first batch of participants from various governorates to the Golden Triangle region (Aqaba, Petra and Wadi Rum) in the south of the Kingdom.

According to a ministry statement, the second season of Jannah Jordan’s programme includes 52 tourist destinations. The season aims to “stimulate domestic tourism by providing free transportation and 40 per cent discounts on the food, drinks and accommodation of Jordanian citizens and 20 per cent discounts for Arab tourists”.

“The programme encourages citizens and residents to sign up for exceptional tourism experiences and enables local communities and service providers to participate effectively in the local tourism industry, leading to economic stimulation and meaningful local employment opportunities,” added the statement.

The first batch of trips targets the south of the Kingdom, and new flights will be launched next week for the central and northern regions.

The tourism board noted in a separate statement that, in the second season of the programme, the involvement of tourism bureaus, local airlines, the Jordanian Tour Guides Association, the Tourist Transportation Association and tourist restaurants was maximised.

Caravans were set up at each tourist destination at a capacity of 75 per cent to ensure the implementation of public safety protocols and protect the health of the participants by facilitating physical distancing practices.

The ministry and the JTB required participants, service providers and tour guides of Jannah Jordan’s second season to download the “Aman” application in order to identify potentially infected citizens in the case that it is later discovered that an infected participant was among any of the programme’s trips.
