'96% of people with disabilities avoid going out due to lack of accessibility'

IRBID — Around 96 per cent of people with disabilities in Jordan stay at home due to the lack of disability-friendly environments at work, and at health and education facilities, HH Prince Mired, president of the Higher Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), said Monday.

During a visit to Irbid, the prince checked on centres dealing with people with disabilities and injured servicemen, highlighting the HCD's plans to issue a manual to serve as a reference for all entities working with this segment of society.

Prince Mired also noted that the council's strategy focuses on increasing employment among people with disabilities and improving the quality of services provided to them.

During a visit to a disability society in the northern governorate, the prince presented wheelchairs to a number of children and honoured supporters of the facility.
