AMMAN — Several agreements were signed on Thursday during the MENA ICT Forum 2016, including one to launch Jordan’s youth-focused programming by Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT).

Funded by Global Affairs Canada, DOT Jordan’s programmes will boost youth economic empowerment through social innovation, entrepreneurship, creative technology and leadership skills development, according to the signatories.

DOT Jordan’s programming will support youth on a social innovation journey, providing them with the skills, know-how, and resources to design and implement social innovations that tackle needs in their communities, the signatories said in a statement.

The programme will also transform Jordan’s community-based knowledge stations into digital creativity labs that use technology to inspire youth-led innovation and research, as well as solve pressing challenges in local communities and offer digital skills development programming to women and youth, according to the statement.

DOT Jordan’s goal is to refresh knowledge stations to become digital community centres that will transform their communities.

ICT Minister Majd Shweikeh and DOT Founder and CEO Janet Longmore signed a memorandum of understanding, highlighting the importance of the partnership to achieve the goals set out in the government’s Reach 2025.

DOT Jordan will collaborate closely with the ICT Ministry to uphold the national priorities of supporting sustainable economic growth as well as exploring creative avenues in raising awareness on e-government services at the community level, the statement said.

Another agreement was signed between the ICT Association of Jordan and Orange Jordan to support entrepreneurs.

The deal stipulates taking measures to accelerate the growth of start-ups.

Also on Thursday, MenaITech, a Jordanian company specialised in the development and provisioning of human capital information systems, announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Microsoft Jordan to provide a package of specialised solutions in the Middle East and North Africa.
