Agriculture Ministry presents 109,000 saplings to public agencies

AMMAN — The Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday presented 109,000 saplings to ministries and public agencies worth JD43,600 to be planted in suitable areas.
According to a statement, the ministry annually sells 600,000 saplings at nominal prices to citizens across Jordan.

Over 70,000 saplings will be planted across the Kingdom starting Thursday, which marks Arbour Day, to expand Jordan’s forests, a government official said on Wednesday.
As the Syrian crisis marks its third anniversary this weekend, 400 to 1,000 Syrians continue to cross into Jordan every day, fleeing the war in their country, according to the UNHCR.
Thousands of saplings will be planted across the country on Wednesday to compensate for the trees destroyed in December’s snowstorm, which was a “strong blow” to Jordan’s forestry sector, an official said on Monday.
