AMMAN — The Palestinian cause will remain the Kingdom’s utmost priority until Palestinians realise their right to an independent state of their own with East Jerusalem as its capital, acting Lower House speaker Nassar Qaisi said on Wednesday.

Qaisi was speaking during a meeting with Moroccan-Jordanian Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee President Khadija Zayyani that covered bilateral and regional issues.

Terming the bilateral relations as “historical”, the acting speaker called for enhancing ties in all fields, mainly parliamentary, to serve the best interests of both countries.

He stressed that Jerusalem is the cause of all Arabs stressing that the Kingdom “utterly refuses” any plan or deal regarding the Holy City, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The MP also expressed appreciation for the Moroccan positions that support the Kingdom’s Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian sites in the Holy City, noting that Rabat has become a prominent regional player.

For her part, Zayyani hailed Amman’s pivotal stance towards regional issues, mainly the Palestinian cause, highlighting the role of the Hashemites in safeguarding the Holy City.

Also on Wednesday, members of the Jordanian-Moroccan Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee at the Senate met with members of the Moroccan delegation over means to enhance cooperation and coordination in various fields, mainly parliamentary.

The head of the Senate committee, Senator Abdul Razzaq Tbeishat, and Zayyani expressed both kingdoms’ keenness to enhance ties at all levels, especially in the economic, investment and cultural sectors, Petra added.

During a meeting with the Moroccan delegates, head of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee MP Nidal Taani said that the regional instability and political crises in some countries of the Middle East have reflected negatively on the Palestinian cause.

Taani said that Jordan’s biggest concerns are Israel’s continued violation of Jerusalem’s holy sites and its provocations against the Palestinian people.

Zayyani stressed Rabat’s unaltered stance towards Palestine and the Hashemite Custodianship, rejecting all types of compromise for “these unchangeable positions”.

Head of the Lower House’s Jordanian-Moroccan Brotherhood Committee MP Wafa Bani Mustafa said that Amman and Rabat see eye to eye on several regional issues, mainly Palestine and Jerusalem, praising, in this regard, the Moroccan support to the Hashemite Custodianship, according to Petra.
