Awqaf minister meets Brazil’s grand mufti

AMMAN — Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat on Wednesday met with visiting Grand Mufti of Brazil Mohammed Maghribi and acquainted him with Jordan’s efforts to counter terrorist and extremist ideologies, as a part of a holistic national policy.
Arabiyat said that the Amman Message launched in 2004 under Royal Patronage is aimed at spreading tolerant Islamic values and at countering radical ideology, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He highlighted his ministry’s key role in convening annual gatherings to communicate on the message’s core ideas. For his part, Maghribi lauded Jordan’s key role in defending Islam and showcasing its true teachings to the world, at a time when terrorist and extremist organisations seek to destroy its image.
He said that the Brazilian public opinion welcomes the presence of Muslims and resists any attempts to harm the society’s diversity.
