Bollad wins parliament seat by default a month ahead of elections

AMMAN — Mirza Bollad has become the first member of the 17th Lower House of Parliament one month ahead of the January 23 parliamentary elections.
By the end of the candidate registration period on Monday, Bollad was the only one to register for the Circassian and Chechen seat in Zarqa’s first district, an official at the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) said on Monday, winning the seat by default.
The IEC official said that once his registration application was approved, Bollad would officially be the first to win a seat in the coming house.
Bollad was former MP in the 16th Lower House.
Former deputy Mirza Bollad officially became the first MP in the 17th Lower House on Sunday after the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) declared he was the only candidate registered for the polls in his local constituency.
