AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday approved several recommendations and projects at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour.

The Cabinet approved a recommendation by its Economic Development Committee to allow Jordan to benefit from the natural gas field discovered in Palestinian regional waters near Gaza and coordinate with the Palestinian Authority in this regard.

To further this aim, the Council of Ministers tasked the Planning Ministry with contacting USAID to approve the assignment of Deloitte, or any other consultancy firm, to help the Energy Ministry in the negotiations for the gas agreement.

Also on Wednesday, the Cabinet approved a recommendation by the same committee regarding a cooperation agreement between the Kingdom and Armenia on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, which is expected to be signed during the Armenian president’s visit to Jordan, scheduled in October.

In addition, the Council of Ministers approved the ratified protocol of the Convention on Offences and Certain Other Acts Committed on Board Aircraft, known as the Tokyo Convention, which Jordan signed recently.

Upon the recommendation of Transport Minister Lina Shbeeb, the Cabinet also approved the draft agreement between the governments of Jordan and India on marine transport cooperation, and authorised the Jordan Maritime Commission director general to sign it on behalf of the government.

Upon another recommendation by the Economic Development Committee, the Cabinet authorised the National Electric Power Company to administrate and maintain the liquefied natural gas terminal being built in Aqaba.
