AMMAN — Minister of Industry and Trade Hatem Halawani on Wednesday said the Cabinet had endorsed a decision granting local products higher priority in public tenders.

Under the decision, the public sector will pay up to 15 per cent more for products from local providers than those from other markets.

Previous regulations allowed for local products 10 per cent higher in price.

He noted that the decision seeks to enhance the competitiveness of local businesses and increase their contribution to the gross domestic product.
