Cabinet raises price margin for local goods in public tenders

AMMAN — Minister of Industry and Trade Hatem Halawani on Wednesday said the Cabinet had endorsed a decision granting local products higher priority in public tenders.
Under the decision, the public sector will pay up to 15 per cent more for products from local providers than those from other markets.
Previous regulations allowed for local products 10 per cent higher in price.
He noted that the decision seeks to enhance the competitiveness of local businesses and increase their contribution to the gross domestic product.
The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) on Tuesday requested local banks to mention in their announcements regarding their financial statements that banks’ financial results are initial and have not been approved by CBJ.
Minister of Industry and Trade Hatem Halawani on Thursday said that the estimated cost of subsidising wheat and barley on the Treasury this year is around JD290 million, based on the current international prices.
The first local exposition of Jordan-made goods begins Thursday with the aim of promoting domestic products among local consumers.
