Competition invites youth to design mobile applications for COVID-19 response

AMMAN — The Ministry of Youth on Friday will launch a competition entitled "Our Youth, Our Pride" in partnership with Pioneers Academy, with the aim of integrating young people into serving local communities and developing their skills remotely in light of the current challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Media and Public Relations Director at the Ministry Majed Asileh told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Tuesday that the competition involves the formation of teams of three to design a mobile application that works to solve a specific problem related to the repercussions of COVID-19 on Jordanian society.

After a team registers in the competition, it’s members will undergo a 30-hour free training on topics related to building smartphone applications, graphic design, e-marketing and life skills development, Asileh said.

In regard to the terms of the competition, the director explained that contestants must have Jordanian citizenship, be between the ages of 16 and 22 and have an idea that fits with the theme of the competition.

The ministry will award winners with three cash prizes. The first prize is worth JD1,000, the second is worth JD750 and the third prize is worth JD500.
