Coronavirus outbreak will soon be under control — Chinese envoy

AMMAN — China is experiencing a "decisive and fruitful battle” against the coronavirus epidemic, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang said on Monday.

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the envoy said that China has managed to cut down the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in all areas except for Hubei province, as more than 10,000 cases have been discharged from hospitals and the recovery rate is growing.

China's 2.1 per cent mortality rate from the virus is “very low”, falling far below those of the Ebola and SARS viruses, the statement added.

Daily statistics suggest that the coronavirus outbreak will be under control within a short time, thanks to China's “rapid reaction and preventive measures”, which have been lauded by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Weifang said.

Pointing out that China has shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus, the envoy stressed that his country is working “transparently and responsibly”, as the battle against the virus is related to the fate of the whole world.

Lauding the international community's support, the diplomat said that the secretary generals of the UN and WHO have expressed confidence in China's ability to overcome the epidemic alongside the leaderships of more than 120 countries and international organisations which have expressed their support and sympathy towards the virus-hit country.
