Crown Prince to address high-profile youth forum Friday

AMMAN — The first Global Forum on Youth, Peace and Security, hosted by Jordan in partnership with the UN, will open on Friday at King’s Academy in Madaba, 35km south of Amman.
At the opening session, HRH Crown Prince Hussein will deliver an address that will focus on the role of young people and steps needed to empower them in order to set up a new international agenda on youth, security and peace, a Royal Court statement said.
Organisers of the forum include the Office of the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, United Nations Peacebuiliding Support Office, UNFPA and UNDP with support of the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD), in partnership with Search for Common Ground and the United Network of Young Peacebuilders.
The opening session will also include a speech by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and a speech by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that will be delivered by the executive director of the United Nations Population Fund, on his behalf.
US Secretary of State John Kerry will participate through a video message.
The event will include discussion sessions while inspiring stories of young people will be told.
During the two-day event, around 500 participants from all over the world will address various issues and jointly draft “Amman Youth Declaration”.
The declaration will reflect young people’s vision of their role in conflict prevention, countering extremism and building peace.
