Dead Sea isolation centre houses 830 COVID-19 patients — army official

AMMAN — The accommodation centre at the Dead Sea area, which was later transferred into an isolation centre for COVID-19 patients, has received more than 9,145 people since its establishment and now houses 830 COVID-19 patients, an army official said on Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Talal Ghabin, head of the moral guidance department at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), during a media tour of the centre, said that all people at the centre are in good health condition, and those who need medical care are sent to hospitals, noting that the state incurs the cost of their stay at the centre. 

Ghabin said that care services to the patients is provided according to strict health measures, where they receive medical care round the clock under the supervision of specialist doctors and psychiatrists, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The official stressed that the location now "is only for isolation purposes and not for quarantine", which led JAF to change its strategy in dealing with the repercussions of the virus crisis over the past few weeks.

Col. Hussein Dmour, director of battlefield medicine at the Royal Medical Services, said that the medical staff at the centre, comprising some 38 doctors and nurses, offer the necessary medical care to patients and follow up on their condition constantly.

JAF offers three daily meals to patients and the food preparation undergoes strict supervision.
