Detained businessman denied bail for fifth time

AMMAN — The Amman Criminal Court on Thursday turned down the fifth bail petition filed by the defence team of businessman Haitham Dahleh, who is being held at the Jweideh Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre since September 25. Dahleh faces charges of abuse of office and purchasing companies worth JD34 million with money from the United Group Holdings. The court also rejected a bail petition filed by the lawyer of Jamil Ortani, who was arrested last week in connection with the case.

Amman Court of Appeals on Thursday released on bail the head of the National Union Party List, Mohammad Khashman, who was detained at the Jweideh Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre.
Former Amman mayor Omar Maani’s defence team said on Monday that they would consider filing his next bail petition at the Court of Appeal after the Amman Court of First Instance rejected a fourth request to free him.
