Domestic tourism gets a boost from ministry app, eid holiday

AMMAN — Eid Al Adha holiday and the weekend after witnessed an increase in domestic tourism numbers around the Kingdom as a total of 6,507 Jordanians benefitted from the Urdon Jannah programme, the Ministry of Tourism said on Monday.

In a statement sent to The Jordan Times, the ministry said the programme provides financially supported trips and free transportation, and it has recorded an “unprecedented increase” of bookings since the start of its operation, benefitting 4,382 citizens who went to their destinations using tourist buses, and 2,125 citizens in their own vehicles. 

The top three destinations were Ajloun, the Dead Sea and Petra, the ministry said, noting that areas in Amman, Madaba, Tafileh, Shobak, Wadi Rum, Um Qais, Jerash, Salt, Umm Jamal and Aqaba also witnessed varying numbers of visitors. 

The app jannah.jo provides services of inquiry, booking and online payment, downloaded by over 20,000 people on Android and iOS, according to the statement, which added that the services are also still available at tourism offices and directorates. 

The bookings remain high even after the holiday, the statement said.

The software is constantly updated to include more e-services and become available to a bigger segment of citizens, with the aim of allowing Jordanian families to enjoy the Kingdom’s destinations at costs within reach as well as to support service providers and tourism facilities’ owners around Jordan, read the statement.
