AMMAN — The Eid Al Adha holiday for ministries and public departments will be from Sunday, September 11, to Thursday, September 15, under a decision by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday.

Jordan annually marks the two main holidays in Islam: Eid Al Fitr, or the feast of breaking the fast, which was on July 6 this year, and the upcoming Eid Al Adha, or the feast of sacrifice, on September 12, which is also the 10th day of Dhul Hijja, the 12th month in the Islamic lunar calendar, named after the pilgrimage rite.

Pilgrims in Mecca on September 11 will ascend Mount Arafat, immediately preceding the first day of Eid. The ritual is the main event in the greater Muslim pilgrimage, or Hajj, and many Muslims voluntarily fast to mark the occasion.
