AMMAN — The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Wednesday announced that candidate registration for the January 23 parliamentary elections will start on December 22 and continue for three days.
IEC Spokesperson Hussein Bani Hani said candidates competing at the district level should submit their applications directly to the head of the constituency, while those on the national list should refer them to the IEC.
He noted that candidates cannot apply for both the local and national districts.
The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Saturday said that the voting rate in Amman’s 2nd District by-election reached only 13.5 per cent, with the total number of citizens casting their votes not exceeding 26,000.
The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) has accepted all 699 candidacy applications at the constituency level and is likely to accept all national ticket applications for the January 23 parliamentary polls, the commission’s spokesperson said on Thursday.
By the end of the three-day candidacy period on Monday, 1,518 candidates had submitted applications to the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) to run for the January 23 parliamentary polls.
