Elections commission issues regulations for local districts

AMMAN — The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Thursday issued the executive regulations concerning running for local electoral districts in accordance with Article 69 of the 2012 Elections Law.
Under the law, each voter has two votes, one at the district level and another designated for a 27-seat list at the national level.
The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Thursday warned that those who collect or are found in possession of voter identification cards belonging to other people will be held legally accountable in accordance with Article 61 of the Elections Law.
Former deputies on Saturday criticised the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) for setting a minimum number of candidates in the national proportional list, saying that it is not authorised to do so.
The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Thursday said it was ready to contend with harsh weather conditions during the January 23 parliamentary elections should the need arise.
