Elections monitors call for regulating national list names, symbols

AMMAN — The national coalition of civil society institutions monitoring the electoral process on Thursday suggested including an article in the campaign regulations pertaining to the slogans, names and symbols used for national lists.
The coalition, which is led by the National Centre for Human Rights and includes more than 50 civil society organisations, recommended introducing instructions to protect children’s rights by disallowing their use for publicity purposes.
It also called for having candidates sign a pledge to commit to the legal campaigning period.
The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on Thursday unveiled the draft regulations for voter identification cards and electoral lists.
A coalition of local civil society institutions monitoring the electoral process on Tuesday issued comments on the draft executive regulations governing the national proportional list.
A US-based nonprofit organisation on Tuesday said Jordan will need to “clarify the process of government formation” to achieve His Majesty King Abdullah’s vision of parliamentary governments.
