Emergency video call system launched to serve deaf community

AMMAN — An emergency video call system for the deaf community launched Thursday allows callers to visually report dangerous situations.

Deaf people can now call 114 on any smart phone with 3G service to report emergencies.

In response, the Public Security Department (PSD) or the Civil Defence Department (CDD) will send a patrol to the incident site, while officers from the hotline will call back to make sure the caller received the required help, according to a PSD statement.

HH Prince Mired, president of the Higher Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), attended the launch of the service, commending the PSD’s preparedness to apply the service immediately through its control and command department in cooperation with Zain Jordan, which supports the project.

He noted that hearing impairments are one of the most common disabilities in Jordan.
