Empowering media a priority — PM

AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Wednesday stressed his support for media, and the government’s efforts to enhance their performance and help them overcome any challenges, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During a phone call with Jordan Press Association (JPA) President Rakan Saaydeh, Mulki said that the government "is aware" of the value and importance of media and has been helping it to carry out its national role professionally and objectively.
The premier emphasised that the Jordanian media consistently prove that they are up to the challenge and responsibility to distinctively convey Jordan's stances towards regional issues.
He also pointed out that empowering media and developing their capabilities, are of utmost interest of the government.
Saaydeh and Mulki also discussed several issues facing media in Jordan, especially financial challenges.
Saaydeh commended the Prime Minister's and the government's support for media and the JPA.
Also on Wednesday JPA president met with Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs Mamdouh Abbadi and Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani to discuss the Jordanian media scene and ways to enhance it.
Abbadi and Momani stressed the government's keenness to help media for its national role, "considering media as one of the pillars the state and its institutions".
