Energy bill rises by 15.8%

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s energy bill increased by 15.8 per cent to reach JD3.74 billion in the first eight months of 2014, compared to JD2.66 billion in the same period last year, according to data released by the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Tuesday.

The data showed that crude oil imports constituted 36.9 per cent of the total imported energy sources, costing JD1.13 billion.

Diesel imports constituted 37 per cent of this year’s bill at JD1.13 billion, rising from about JD705 million compared to the same period last year.
