AMMAN — The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) held a workshop on Wednesday marking the conclusion of the “Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling Project in Jordan”, which was launched in 2010 in response to the government’s strategy to reduce energy consumption and its economic impact.

“The project meets the urgent global priorities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and removes the barriers facing the development of minimum energy efficiency standards in Jordan,” an RSS statement said.

Addressing the workshop, National Energy Research Centre Director Walid Shahin thanked the UNDP for its financial support of the project, which reduces energy consumption at the national level by 137 gigawatt hours in the first year of its application, and is expected to reach 225 gigawatt hours in the second year, according to the RSS.

The project, which was implemented by the RSS and the centre, included holding awareness workshops and promoting the use of energy efficient home appliances.
