Experts stress importance of Regional Index on Violence Against Women and Girls

AMMAN — Specialists participating in a conference to launch the 2021 Regional Index on Violence Against Women and Girls on Sunday stressed the importance of the index for Jordan and other Arab participating countries as a tool to guide national institutions to address this issue.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Diana Haddadin, head of the policies and inspection at the Jordanian National Committee for Women Affairs, said that the regional index includes 49 sub-indexes in seven main categories, where the Kingdom's final score for last year was 52.6 points distributed over the seven main categories.
In the legal and general policies category, Jordan scored 7.9 points with 38 per cent, 8 points for procedures and standards regulations with 62 per cent, 10.1 points for state-financed services with 77 per cent, and 6.5 points for data and statistics with 46 per cent, Haddadin noted.
She added that the Kingdom scored 8.1 points for preventive programmes and procedures with 54 per cent, 5.3 points for vocational capabilities of first respondents with 41 per cent and 6.6 points for national coordination and regional cooperation with 66 per cent.
As for the Jordanian score, Thaker Zghoul, main researcher at the Regional Civil Society Observatory (RCSO) on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), said that these results highlights what the Kingdom has realised in the field of combating violence against women and girls and what fields should be addressed to further develop the Kingdom's status.
