AMMAN — Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury on Saturday discussed with Tafileh Governorate Council the development and investment needs of their southern city, a ministry statement said.

During the meeting, Fakhoury noted that the government is working to accelerate the pace of development across the Kingdom and ensure the success for the governorate councils, as part of the comprehensive reform process.

The minister listened to various ideas related to productive projects to be implemented in Tafileh, 180km southwest of Amman, including a wool project and a fish farm.

He said that the ministry, through its affiliated “Iradah” centres, will prepare feasibility studies for these projects, highlighting the ministry’s continuation of its campaigns to raise awareness of residents on available loaning and financing windows.

According to Fakhoury, the ministry will establish guidance offices to provide advice to citizens and help them establish their own micro and small production projects and self-employment projects and linking them with development financing institutions.

He also urged the governorate council to follow up with the Jordan Investment Commission, the Executive Council and chambers of commerce and industry to network with investors and utilise the investment maps and initial feasibility studies for about 10 investment opportunities for each governorate.

He said that the ministry is working through the Ministerial Committee for Decentralisation to support the efforts of local institutions to prepare lists of their needs and strategic development plans.
