‘Fewer health violations registered in Amman in second week of Ramadan’

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) said on Sunday its health teams closed fewer institutions during the second week of Ramadan compared to the first week of the fasting month.

GAM teams closed 58 establishments and warned 31 in the second week, compared with the closure of 167 establishments and warnings to 84 during the first week.

Moreover, the amount of spoiled food dropped, with the municipality destroying 2,032 kilos in the second week as opposed to 3,021kilogrammes in the first.

Mervat Mheirat, director of GAM’s health supervision department, said the decrease was because stakeholders rectified the status of their establishments in accordance with rules and regulations.

She noted that GAM formed 12 joint central teams in cooperation with the Jordan Food and Drug Administration and the Rangers, as well as 130 field teams from its own cadres to inspect food outlets round-the-clock.
