Figures show tourism sector moving in right direction — ministry

AMMAN — The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on Tuesday said that figures from Jordan’s tourism sector so far this year indicate that the sector is moving in the right direction. Jordan saw a 14.6 per cent increase in the number of tourist groups during January, amounting to 30,817 tourists, according to a ministry statement.
The ministry added that the number of overnight tourists to the Kingdom also increased by 5.7 per cent, amounting to 30,817 visitors compared with January of 2018.
The statement added that the tourism sector is moving in the right direction as it continues to fulfil its economic role by generating income from tourism and provide jobs for Jordanians, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Most touristic sites witnessed an increase in visitors during January, with 54,416 people visiting Petra and 23,000 visiting Jerash, an increase of 34.6 and 64.3 per cent respectively, compared with January of last year.
