AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday met with US Special Envoy for Syria Joel Rayburn.

Safadi and Rayburn discussed means of advancing cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Jordanian-American strategic partnership, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Talks during the meeting also went over efforts exerted to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Safadi highlighted the necessity of intensifying efforts towards a political solution that maintains Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, uproots terrorism and restores peace and stability, one that creates a conducive environment for the voluntary return of refugees.

There is no military solution to the Syrian crisis, Safadi said, stressing that “the political solution is the sole path to end the tragedy that led to destruction and killing”.

The foreign minister also drew attention to the need of instilling stability and providing humanitarian assistance to alleviate Syrians’ suffering, especially in the southern parts of Syria, stressing the importance of an “active” Arab role in resolving the crisis.

The two sides reiterated their countries keenness on boosting mutual ties and furthering cooperation and coordination to resolve regional crises and restore security and stability.
