AMMAN — Thirty-three experienced volunteers from 21 different Generations For Peace (GFP) programmes in 11 countries attended the fourth Samsung Advanced Training which concluded on Wednesday.

The November 22-26 training, hosted at the organisation’s headquarters in Jordan, continues "the investment made by Generations For Peace in its inspirational volunteer change leaders and their local community programmes.

The participants, including Jordanians, gathered in Amman from Georgia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Macedonia, Nepal, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

"The carefully selected individuals have each recently completed a full 12-month programme cycle in their local communities, and a full evaluation to measure their impact and sustainability," the statement said.

The intensive five-day training, based on the unique GFP curriculum and delivered by its “home grown” pioneer facilitators, facilitated the sharing of success stories and lessons learned in the field, enabling the volunteers to enhance their knowledge of practical peace building and conflict transformation methodologies, and to identify best practices from one another’s experiences, the statement added.

“Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means, through dialogue, education, knowledge," the statement quoted HRH Prince Feisal, GFP founder and chairman, as saying.

"Our volunteers are transforming conflict, shattering stereotypes and building trust amongst youth across conflict divides. This training, with Samsung’s generous support, is an extremely valuable opportunity to share their successes and challenges, to learn from each other,” the prince added at a press conference.

Fadi Awni Abu Shamat, corporate marketing director of Samsung Electronics Levant Company, commended the volunteers.

“The extraordinary efforts of these volunteers, promoting youth leadership, community empowerment, active tolerance and responsible citizenship, and reducing violence in their own communities, is something we are extremely proud to support.”

"Each year, we see Generations For Peace grow from strength to strength. Learning more, achieving more. We are both bringing our passion and expertise to inspire the world, and create a better future. Samsung is very proud to continue this partnership with Generations For Peace every step of the way,” he added.

Samsung is the title sponsor for the training, and has supported GFP since 2008, the statement said, adding that the Royal Norwegian embassy, GFP partner in the MENA Region, also supported the training.
