Gov’t examining impact of Brexit on Jordan

By JT - Jun 27,2016 - Last updated at Jun 27,2016

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday discussed the impact of Britain’s exit from the European Union, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The majority of Britons voted to leave the union on Thursday.

The Council of Ministers tasked Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Jawad Anani to prepare a comprehensive paper on the repercussions of Brexit, especially because Jordan has “solid relations with the UK on a bilateral level and previously on EU level”, according to Petra.

In light of the development, the Cabinet called for accelerating the agreement to simplify the rules of origin with the EU, which was agreed upon during February’s London donor conference.

The agreement should be implemented as soon as possible to help Jordan export to the European market on a larger scale and attract investments to contribute to economic growth.

The council urged the UK to continue cooperation with Jordan under the agreements it signed with Amman as an EU member.
