AMMAN — The Prime Ministry and the EU recently announced the formation of a cross-government task force aimed at paving the way to delivering the government’s priorities for 2019 and 2020.

The task force was formed in partnership with various ministries and support from the EU’s M&ETA Jo2025 project, according to an EU statement, which added that members of the task force launched a 12-day training course for government employees on Wednesday.

The training course aims to build employees’ skills to address tasks associated with government delivery. “Delivery is about driving progress and delivering results,” Mohannad Rawashdeh from the Prime Ministry said in the statement.

The course’s first training workshop addressed public policy, strategic planning, strategic and data analysis, data interpretation, as well as reporting, according to the statement. The workshop was launched by the Civil Service Bureau’s president, Nidal Batayneh.

The workshop was led by Professor Michael Barzelay from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Professor Barzelay has also worked as an associate professor of public policy at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, the statement said.

“Building the government’s capacity to effectively deliver on its commitments allows promises to be turned into meaningful gains for citizens,” EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Matteo Fontana said in the statement. “This is a great opportunity for the task force members to learn about the EU’s best practices and contribute to delivering [on] the government’s programme.”
