Gov’t pledges no new tax hikes on fuel

AMMAN — There will be no new tax hikes on fuel, Energy Minister Hala Zawati reaffirmed on Monday, adding that the government will not incur additional costs on the taxpayer.
The government’s intention to replace the proportional tax with a fixed tax does not mean raising the fuel cost, she said. On the contrary, this protects the citizens from extra costs in case international oil prices rise, Zawati said in a press statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Alteration to a flat tax is not a matter of collection as much as it is one of organisation, the minister said, noting the positive impact of fixed fuel taxation on the State Treasury without increasing the citizens’ burdens.
