AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday received a phone call from Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
They discussed the latest developments in Palestinian territories and the recent Israeli offensive on Gaza, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Haniyeh expressed appreciation of the Jordanian support for the Palestinians’ just cause.
He also commended Jordan’s humanitarian, medical and in-kind contributions to the people of Gaza.
The Hamas leader pointed out Jordan’s positive role in support of Palestine, especially during the latest Arab foreign ministers’ meetings.
Jordan took measures to increase aid to support the Gaza Strip as Israeli air strikes on the coastal enclave continued.
During last week’s assault on the strip, His Majesty King Abdullah instructed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben to take the required and immediate measures to enhance the capabilities of Jordan’s military field hospital in Gaza, “Gaza 21”, which has been serving the population there since 2009, following a major offensive carried out by Israel against Gaza.
The King also instructed the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation to dispatch immediate humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
