Hashemite flag raised at Royal Court

AMMAN — Upon orders from His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), the Hashemite flag on Thursday was raised at the main entrance of the Royal Court, on the occasions of the anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt and Army Day. 

JAF’s inspector general attended the flag hoisting ceremony on behalf of the army’s general command, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The flag — with its Hashemite, religious, historical and military symbolisms — is considered the “natural extension” of the flag of the Great Arab Revolt, according to Petra.

The Great Arab Revolt flag combines the colours of the banners of Islamic civilisations, the Jordanian flag and banners of the Arab Army, which symbolise life, sovereignty and independence and embody freedom, bravery and chivalry, Petra said.

The Hashemite banner, which will fly for three days, joined JAF flags and banners in recognition of the “great confidence and high status” His Majesty places to JAF and in appreciation for “its role and message in defending the true vales of Islam and in fighting terrorism and extremism”, according to Petra.

Several commissioned and non-commissioned JAF officers attended the hoisting ceremony.
