AMMAN — Deputising for HH Prince Mired, president of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) and Deputy President of the HCD Basel Tarawneh on Wednesday inaugurated the “people of determination” charity bazaar, at Mecca Mall, designated to promote handicrafts made by people with disabilities.

The Ramadan and eid bazaar was organised by the Jordan Investment Commission (JIC) and the HCD, according to a joint statement sent to The Jordan Times.

Participating in the bazaar, 30 people with disabilities took part, representing their associations, the statement said.

During the ceremony, Tarawneh said that these events highlight the rights of disabled people and shed light on an unprecedented public-private partnership in support of this segment of society.

Such initiatives largely encourage innovation, inclusion and the development of the participants’ entrepreneurial skills, he added.

JIC Chairman Bassam Tawfiq said that the bazaar is the start of a national initiative designated to promote the products of the Kingdom’s charity associations.

Through holding temporary and permanent bazaars, some of which will be announced soon, Tawfiq said, the commission is working with its strategic partners to help further the goals and objectives of this effort.

On behalf of Mecca Mall, company representative Mohammad Kurdi said that the mall’s administration believes that people with disabilities have enormous potential.

The administration recognises the role of the private sector in sustainable development as well as including all people in the process, he concluded.
