AMMAN — Minister of Health Abdul Latif Wreikat, accompanied by several doctors and medics, on Monday visited Gendarmerie and Public Security Department officers who were injured in riots last week over fuel subsidies.
Wreikat praised the efforts of the Gendarmerie in protecting the country and maintaining security.
The health ministry delegation condemned the attacks on the gendarmes, saying they were committed by a small number of people who acted against Jordanian values.
Minister of Media Affairs and Communications and Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah on Tuesday visited security personnel who were injured in riots over the government’s decision to lift fuel subsidies.
Minister of Health Abdul Latif Wreikat on Wednesday checked on the condition of a police officer who was shot on duty. During a visit to Al Bashir Public Hospital, Wreikat instructed the medical staff at the hospital to provide all patients with the needed medical care.
Public hospitals, which treated 13 million patients last year, registered 117 incidents of assaults on medics, which “clearly indicates that violence against doctors does not count as a phenomenon”, a senior official said Tuesday.
