AMMAN — The second edition of Petra Horse Festival concluded on Saturday.

Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chief Commissioner Suleiman Farajat on Saturday said that the event, held in the Baida region, aims to highlight the identity of Petra horses and their connection to the ancient city’s historical and cultural status.

Farajat, in a PDTRA statement, emphasised the importance of horses to the local community, noting that Petra, some 220 kilometres south of Amman, is home to 25 per cent of the Kingdom’s horses.

Commissioner of Local and Environment Development Maram Freihat said that the festival seeks to enhance the competiveness of the equine industry and preserve Arab horse breeds, notably to resettle these horses in Petra District.
